PATHPOD System

The PATHPOD system was originally designed for the CORONADX initiative, an EU funded project. The design of the PATHPOD system has been adjusted to be beneficial for its use in Africa, namely Ghana. DTU has designed the PATHPOD system and its accompanying cartridges and is working with the TATAA Center and the Ghanaian partners to create the most beneficial system for COVID diagnostics in Africa.

The PATHPOD system is designed to with easy-to-use gear, provides rapid results and requires minimal training. The PATHPOD system is the ideal diagnostic tool for use in low- and middle-income countries.

How to Use the PATHOPOD System

The PATHPOD System is designed for easy use by skilled and minimally-skilled technicians. To use the PATHPOD system, the operator puts the sample onto the cartridge which is then loaded into the PATHPOD device. The system utilizes Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) technology to amplify and detect the virus within the sample.

The PATHPOD system can process up to 10 samples at a time and produces results rapidly. Comparing this to the gold standard of COVID-19 testing, the PATHPOD system produces comparable results in a fraction of the time. Another advantage of using the PATHPOD is that it can be used on site. The PATHPOD system is mobile and can be transported across different testing sites. This will allow rapid second-line detection in mobile clinics, community health centres, and testing sites without needing to ship the sample to a central laboratory for testing.
